Dr. Lu’s Presents at AAPS National Biotechnology Conference
Dr. Patrick Lu, President and CEO of Sirnaomics Inc., was invited to speak in the 2008 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference
which took place on June 22-25, 2008 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario Canada. In the session of “Effective Targeted Delivery of RNAi Diagnostics and Therapy”, Dr. Lu presented the work on “siRNA in Prophylactic and Therapeutic Regimens against SARS Coronavirus”, published two years ago in Nature Medicine, followed by the latest development of siRNA therapeutics to treat and protect the H5N1 infected mice. Using a novel nanoparticle-based delivery system with siRNA duplexes, the therapeutics benefits were significantly better than several other small molecule antiviral drugs. In a different roundtable discussion session: Challenges and Opportunities in SiRNA Delivery, Dr. Lu addressed specifically the issues regarding siRNA in vivo delivery, using nanoparticle-based siRNA packaging systems as examples. In response to the questions regarding the recent Nature paper (Ambati et al, March 26, 2008), Dr. Lu emphasized that the finding further revealed
the importance of delivery for successful siRNA therapeutics.
